So, let’s get to the facts and debunk the fiction.
Common Questions?
Acne can be caused by a combination of factors: hormones, heredity, and bacteria on the skin and in pores. Some of the most common acne triggers are stress and hormones. Other acne triggers can include the environment and some medications.
Stress:
Physical, emotional, school/job-related, or daily stress can trigger acne.
Hormones:
Hormone levels fluctuate as we grow and get older, with diet and some medications. Hormones also fluctuate as the seasons change, altering the amount of oil skin produces (reaching highest amounts in October).
Environment:
Pollution and exposure to oil, grease, and extreme temperatures can lead to clogged pores and lead to pimples.
Medications:
Some medications cause skin and follicle irritations. Ask your doctor if any of your prescribed medication could be contributing to your acne breakouts.
Pores can become clogged by a combination of factors such as excess oil, dirt, and dead skin. When pores become blocked, it provides the perfect environment for the growth of acne bacteria (Cutibacterium acnes/C. acnes bacteria) underneath the skin. The bacteria thrive in environments with low oxygen concentration and can multiply by feeding off the oil within the pore. The growth of C. acnes bacteria causes inflammation, redness and swelling which eventually leads to an acne breakout on the skin’s surface. Oxy® has products that instantly remove dirt, oil, and dead skin to let oxygen through helping your skin breathe and improving the look of acne-prone skin.
Everyone’s skin is different, so it’s difficult to determine the amount of time necessary for Oxy® Acne Care to work effectively. A proper cleansing regimen can keep your skin clear and healthy, but it may take 4 - 8 weeks to see a visible difference.
If over-the-counter treatments aren't working, or if you have painful, cystic, or widespread acne, it might be time to see a dermatologist for more advanced treatments.
Oxy products are specially formulated with clinically proven active ingredients to unclog pores and allow oxygen in to keep pores open and breathing. When pores breathe, bacteria can’t grow, and when bacteria can’t grow, pimples won’t form. Oxy keeps your skin clean and prevents pimples from rearing their ugly heads.
Look for benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, retinoids, sulfur, and alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), which help to exfoliate, unclog pores, and reduce inflammation.
Oxy® Cleansing Acne Pads work instantly to unclog pores to let oxygen in to help skin breathe. They contain a polymer that entraps the active ingredient, salicylic acid. The unique entrapment action allows the medicine to stay on the skin and in the pores where it is needed to work best between washings. Your skin is protected from irritation due to the slow release of the medicine, instead of having a harsh stinging burst when the pad is first applied.
Some treatments can cause dryness or irritation, especially initially. Start with a lower concentration and gradually increase usage, and use a good moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated.
Absolutely, but wait until the Oxy® product you have applied has dried and be sure to use a water-based foundation. Choose products that are labeled non-comedogenic or non-acnegenic, so they will not clog your pores and will allow Oxy® to continue working with oxygen to fight acne.
Skin Myths
If you wash your skin frequently and hard you can make acne worse. Vigorous washing and scrubbing can irritate the skin making it worse. The best approach to hygiene and acne is to gently wash your face twice a day, pat dry and use an appropriate acne treatment for the acne.
There is not enough research to prove a direct link between diet and acne, however, if you find that certain foods like French Fries or dairy seem to make your acne worse, take a break and see if it helps.
Stress does affect your hormones and theoretically can promote acne. Prevent breakouts with Oxy® Acne Care’s easy to use products that have clinically proven active ingredients for healthy skin.
In the short-term the sun may work to speed up the clearing of existing acne by drying out your skin. However, the sun can aggravate your acne and possibly cause a sunburn which is skin damage, both can make acne worse. Using sunscreen with Oxy Acne Pads helps protect skin from sun damage.
Popping your pimples is one of the worst things you can do. Popping pimples pushes more germs further into pores, which could cause more redness, pain and even infection. This could also lead to scarring.
Dirt on the surface of your skin is not the problem, the number one cause of acne is a combination of skin scales, oil and bacteria found in the follicles and sebaceous glands.
Not only can teenagers get acne but so can children, pre-teens, and adults. Most teenagers have acne because of hormonal changes in their teenage years. The Oxy® product range has effective acne solutions for all skin types.
